Week 5 Podcast on Realism by Ethan Tussey:
Standard Operating Procedure: Torture For Fun And Uncle Sam
http://swans.com/library/art14/pbyrne80.html
The other day I didn’t have time to mention Errol Morris, who (along with Alex Gibney) is a key figure in North American documentary cinema. Whereas Gibney takes an investigative, almost journalistic approach on Taxi to the Dark Side (2007), Morris’ Standard Operating Procedure (2008)–with its many constructions–seems to fit in the compilation film category.

Interviews with Alex Gibney
I wanted to point out a couple of radio interviews Alex Gibney did about his documentary, Taxi to the Dark Side. They’re quite insightful discussions. I recommend them!

Extra credit assignment – short video project
I’ve posted the parameters for the extra credit project on the assignments page. Here is the short description:
Take a scene or film that we’ve seen in and re-make, re-enact, or re-appropriate the scene/film in your own way. Creatively interpret what you think is at the core of the scene/film and, like Julie Taymor does in Across the Universe with the Beatles, try to draw out certain themes from the original.
